A Business Development Manager from infrastructure services specialist Morgan Est is the new president of the Institution of Highways and Transportation (IHT).

Chris Jackson has more than 35 years experience in the construction of transport infrastructure and has been IHT vice president for three years.

The IHT focuses on issues relating to the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of land-based transport systems and infrastructure and has more than 11,500 members.

Mr Jackson said: “IHT presidents have historically come from local authorities and it is not often they have been provided by a contractor. It is an honour to take on the presidency and represent the whole of the profession.

“What I’m hoping to do is build on the work done by previous presidents and to focus on the ability to work with the British government and the devolved governments in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to deliver the transportation needs of the population.”
