Morgan Sindall plc, the construction and urban regeneration group, is to acquire Amec plc’s national construction and civil engineering business, Design and Project Services Limited (DPS) and its large-scale, mixed-use urban regeneration business, Amec Developments (ADL). The acquisition of the two companies, which fit neatly with Morgan Sindall’s existing construction offerings, will significantly increase the Group’s size and construction capability and accelerate the company’s entry into the attractive, large scheme, mixed-use urban regeneration market, a long-term growth sector. Morgan Sindall, which is paying a total of £26 million for both businesses, will acquire the entire share capital of ADL and the assets of DPS.

New Pipe Bridge for Esholt Sewerage Treatment Works

The bridge is made up of two self-supporting pipes, which have a clear span of over 40m across the River Aire. The larger 2.1m diameter pipe will carry partially treated effluent from the new activated sludge plant to the final settlement tanks and the smaller 1.5 m diameter pipe will transfer the return sludge back to the front end of the process where it can be re-circulated through the digestors. This will be combined and conditioned with green waste for use as compost.

A mountain of sludge will not be heading for landfill but rather, a golf course in Leicestershire thanks to the ‘green and eco-friendly thinking’ of infrastructure services company, Morgan Est. The company is currently upgrading Frankley Water Treatment Works (WTW) in Frankley, Birmingham, for Severn Trent Water, and is treating the sludge, made up from sand and gravel, with a special lime solution so it can be recycled on the golf course as an alternative to landfill.
