Case Study: Roads & Bridges

Project: Upper Forth Crossing at Kincardine

Upper Forth Crossing at Kincardine

Location: Kincardine, Fife, Scotland
Client: Transport Scotland
Contract value: £100m

Start: Summer 2006   Completion: November 2008

Brief Description
Morgan Est secured this £100m contract due to our proven track record in incrementally launched structures. The adoption of this technique has enabled the bridge to be constructed from one side, minimising the environmental impact on the saltmarshes and mudflats that form part of the feeding and nesting grounds for migratory birds. At 1.2km in length and weighing in excess of 35,000 tonnes, Kincardine Crossing will be one of the worlds largest bridge decks constructed using an incremental launch technique.
