Safety
The health, safety and well-being of our people and everyone affected by our activities is our number one priority.
We set ourselves the highest possible targets for health and safety, which are consistently over and above the legal requirements, and continue to demonstrate significant year-on-year improvements. However, we recognise the need to continue this improvement and believe that everybody, whether employees, subcontractors or others impacted by our operations, has the right to "Work Safe, Home Safe".
Our Health and Safety Policy and comprehensive Safety Management System define our current processes and safety requirements for a "
Work Safe, Home Safe" environment not only for today but for the future. Our vision for a "
Work Safe, Home Safe" future is based upon our:

Culture and behaviours
Many accidents result from inappropriate behaviour. We want our people to be instinctively aware of the consequences of their behaviours and actions to ensure that safety is truly integrated into everything we do. Developing this "caring & sharing" culture means that proactive intervention, sharing of knowledge, feedback and continuous improvement is a way of life at Morgan Est.

Longer term relationships
We recognise that cultural change does not happen overnight. Therefore we continue to develop longer term relationships with clients, our people and our suppliers. A stable work profile means we can work to develop a consistent culture and safety environment for everybody. This includes subcontractors, suppliers and external designers as well as our own people.

Developing competence
We continue to develop a comprehensive competence management system whereby all our operational people at every level have been assessed for Safety and Technical Competence, against industry-recognised schemes such as the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS). This is a continual assessment programme, which is also incorporated into our company wide Performance and Development Planning process - which reviews current competencies and details plans for individual development. We expect that all of our subcontractors will have similar systems of their own, or will operate within the Morgan Est system.

Health
We are committed to a consistent and comprehensive occupational Health Management System. This includes pre-start questionnaires and regular on-site health monitoring and screening for such things as dermatitis, hearing loss, muscular skeletal disorders and breathing difficulties, for all of our operational employees.
Additionally absence for sickness is monitored for any relationship to occupational causes. We actively promote a healthy lifestyle and structured occupational health campaigns that contribute to reduced sickness absence level.

Measures
The table shows Morgan Est's safety performance based upon reportable accidents using industry recognised measures for Accident Frequency Rates.

Looking farther ahead, Morgan Est has set itself a safety target based upon Accident Frequency Rates of 0.10 or less in 2012.
This is based upon RIDDOR reportable accidents for 100,000 person hours worked and would mean that on average 1 in 10 of our workforce would suffer a reportable accident during their working life. This target covers subcontractors as well as direct employees and it represents a 15% year-on-year improvement from our 2006 performance of 0.28.
This performance is well ahead of the HSE's UK Revitalising Health and Safety targets of 5% year-on-year.
