Case Study: Tunnels

Brief Description
Working on one of the largest construction sites in Europe, our in-house tunnelling teams have recently completed the design and construction of all of the tunnelling works on this highly complex site, worth £180m. The works comprise over 14km of tunnels including significant airside activities. Our works included the Airside Road Tunnel, (awarded ‘British Tunnelling Society UK Project of the Year’), Heathrow Express and Piccadilly Extensions and further service tunnels. All of the tunnels were driven beneath live airport taxiways and operational aircraft stands. Our early involvement with the client and design teams produced innovative designs and enabled use of the modern tunnelling technology Lasershell™, designed by Morgan Est in conjunction with our joint venture partners.
